Blood Donation Process

Giving blood is easy, and it can make a big difference! The donation process takes about an hour in most cases, and each donation can save up to three lives.

Registration: You will read an informational booklet about giving blood, which includes information on certain medications and travel destinations that may affect your eligibility that day. You will be asked to show a photo ID.

Heath History and Mini Physical: A trained staff person will ask you a series of questions about your health history during a private and confidential interview. You will have your iron level, blood pressure, pulse, and temperature checked in order to protect your health and well being.

Donation: A staff person will cleanse an area on your arm and insert a sterile needle for the donation. You will relax for about 10 minutes while the donation takes place. When approximately a pint of blood has been collected, the staff person will remove the needle and place a bandage on your arm.

Refreshments: After the donation is complete, you will be invited to enjoy some cookies and refreshments in our canteen area. Take this time to allow your body to adjust to the slight decrease in fluid levels. You can then continue with the rest of your day, feeling good about the difference you may have made in the life of a local patient!
